The US President Donald Trump signed an order on Monday to restrict H-1B immigration visa and other immigration visas until the end of this year 2020. The business association said a move that will hit the technology industry in both India and the US, said by business associations.

And it’s not only about H-1B visa but United States government has also banned, Popular work visas including the much-coveted H-1B and H-2B, and certain categories of H-4, J, and L visas shall also remain suspended until December 31, the White House made released this statement in a press note.

When it comes to our Country’s immigration system in my administration, we have decided to remain sensible of the impact of foreign workers on the United States labor market, particularly in the current extraordinary environment of high domestic unemployment and depressed demand for labor…In light of the above, I have determined that the entry, through December 31, 2020, of certain aliens as immigrants and nonimmigrants would be harmful to the interests of the United States, said by U.S president Donald Trump.

What are H-1B, H-2B, L, and other work visas?

In order to fill a vacancy of highly-skilled low-cost employees in the IT sector and other related provinces, the US administration issues a certain number of visas each year which allows other companies from outside the US to send their employees to work on client sites.

In these work visas, the H-1B remains the most popular among Indian IT companies. The US government has a lid of 85,000 total H-1B visas for each year. Of this, 65,000 H-1B visas are issued to only highly skilled foreign workers who came from other countries.

While the rest 20,000 can be additionally assigned to highly skilled foreign workers who have a higher education or master’s degree from an American university.

To one side from the H-1B visas, the US government also issues L1 visas which allow companies to transfer their highly skilled workers to the US for a limited time of period like up to seven years. H-2B visas allow food and agricultural workers to find employment in the US.
