Women and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal targeted the state government over the death of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, calling it a shame for the country.

Dalit leader and Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad protested at Safdarjung Hospital demanding death penalty for the accused. “I appeal to all members of the Dalit community to take to the streets and demand death penalty for the culprits. The government should not test our patience. We will not rest until the culprits are hanged. “He said that the state government is” equally responsible for the death of our sister “.

Hathras Superintendent of Police Vikrant Veer said that the woman’s family informed her that she died at around 3 am. “[The woman] was sent to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi but could not be saved. She breathed her last on Tuesday morning … [Her] postmortem is to be done in Delhi, before her body is brought back to Hathras, probably for the funeral on Tuesday, Veer said. He said the woman suffered a spinal injury, but denied reports that her tongue had slipped.

Veer said that the in-charge of the Kotwali police station of Hathras has been removed for alleged inaction in the case. He said the four accused were arrested and a case would also be filed for murder.

Veer said he first arrested 20-year-old Sandeep on the day the woman was raped. He said three more people named Ramu, Lavakush, and Ravi were arrested later after the woman took his name in a statement before a magistrate on 22 September. Veer said that the men tried to strangle him when he opposed the attempt to rape her.

Veer said the 19-year-old was found badly injured after missing the 14-year-old.

Hathras District Magistrate Praveen Kumar said that a case has been registered against the accused under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and compensation of Rs 10 lakh has been given to the woman’s family.

He said that a fast-track court would be set up to hear the case to punish the culprits at the earliest.

The case has drawn parallels in the gang rape case of a 23-year-old student in Delhi who was attacked on a moving bus and left to die on the roadside in 2012. Angry over the Delhi case triggered nationwide protests and prompted the government to pass a strict law against sexual violence with the provision of capital punishment for rape. Four people convicted of rape and murder, 23, were hanged in March.

The woman from Hathras was shifted from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital of Aligarh Muslim University to Delhi Hospital on Monday, when there were no signs of improvement in her condition. She was admitted to the hospital in Aligarh on September 14 in critical condition and was on ventilator support.

Priyanka Gandhi said law and order in Uttar Pradesh has deteriorated to a great extent and no semblance of safety exists for women. “The criminals are committing crimes openly,” she tweeted, calling for severe punishment for the rapist-killers. “@myogiadityanath [chief minister Yogi Adityanath] you are accountable for the safety of women in UP [Uttar Pradesh],” she tweeted.

“A Dalit girl who was a victim of demonic treatment in Hathras has died in Safdarjung Hospital. For two weeks, she struggled between life and death in hospitals. Priyanka Gandhi said that the incidents of rape in Hathras, Shahjahanpur and Gorakhpur have shaken the state.

Kejriwal demanded that the culprits should be tried to be hanged at the earliest. “The death of the victim of Hathras is shameful for the whole society, the country as well as all governments. It is very sad that so many daughters are being sexually harassed and we have not been able to protect them…, ”Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati demanded stringent punishment for the accused and said that they should be produced in a fast-track court. “The news of the death of a Dalit victim after the gangrape in Hathras… is very sad. The government should provide all possible help to the aggrieved family and the culprits should be tried in strict court and ensure their severe punishment. “”

Bhim Army chief and Dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad visited police at Aligarh Hospital on Sunday night to express “solidarity” with the woman’s family. He said the rape highlighted the deteriorating law and order in the state.

“Policemen who are negligent in this case should be duly punished and the family members of the woman should be provided immediate protection as they are feeling unsafe and should be shifted to a safe place,” he said. Azad demanded financial assistance of Rs. 1 crore for the woman’s family.

Veer said a police force was deployed at the woman’s house when she was admitted to the hospital in Aligarh, where her condition deteriorated.

In a video message, National Women’s Commission (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma said that the commission had sought a report of action from the Uttar Pradesh police on the matter and was told that the four accused had been arrested. He said that the commission has promised all possible help to the woman’s family. “An NCW member is visiting the victim’s brother and will help the family in whatever we can.”
