President Ramnath Kovind on Sunday approved three farmer bills despite opposition from opposition parties. Opposition parties had appealed to the President that this bill is anti-farmer, so they should not sign it.

What is Kisan bill?

The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 for agricultural reforms; The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020 have been introduced.

All these three laws were implemented by the central government in the form of the ordinance on 5 June 2020 during the lockdown. Since then there has been a ruckus on them. The central government is calling them the biggest agrarian reforms ever. However, the opposition parties see the benefit of the exploitation of farmers and corporates in this.
